The Henley Community Hall Refurbishment
Update 9th February 2009 by Churchwarden Michael Longdon
Today saw a band of 'enthusiastic' workmen start on the refurbishment of the Henley Community Hall, within minutes the electricians had started to stip
out the old cabling, and by 3.00pm they had some of the new wiring in place. The decision had been taken to move the main hall light switches to the
front entrance, but the switches for the stage would remain on the stage. The kitchen will get it's own consumer unit to allow for future updating in
there. The new lights are considerably smaller and will help to reduce our carbon footprint (in the main hall) by 50% and our electrical consumption by
a similar ammount. We are assured that these lights will still give out adequate lighting. We are having extra power points in the hall so that when
we have functions these will be of benefit as they will be for the Care Boot Sale. The builders made a start on the toilets, within an hour the Gents
was nothing but an empty shell and by mid afternoon the Ladies was in a similar position and the floor had gone. Marjorie, Joan, Kevin, Terry and John
along with myself spent time moving the chairs, removing the notice boards, cleaning the office and taking the essential 'brew kit' equipment into
Church.
There will be one major alteration in the Hall, after 100 years the Ladies and Gentlemens toilets will change place due to the regulations on size for
the disabled toilet. Originally we had hoped that we would get two disabled toilets, but due to the regulations on size we are going to have a 'unisex
disabled toilet' this is because of area available and that there needs to be room for wheel chair access and manouverability. Work will be continuous
during the refurbishment period. If you have any questions about the refurbishment please do not hesitate to ask either John Irons or myself and we
will endeavor to give you an answer.
Yours in Christ,
Michael
